Buying Tips

United Policyholders' Buying Tips use "after the fact" lessons learned by people who filed claims and became very familiar with the details of their insurance policies. When an insurance policy gets "road tested" during the claim process, gaps in coverage are revealed. You can benefit from these lessons by knowing what questions to ask about your coverage before you have a loss. You can ask your insurance company or agent questions at any time — not just when you buy the policy. Most policies can be modified mid-term.

Our tips are based on our organization's many years of hands-on experience. They include information from the nation's leading policyholder-oriented insurance professionals, including former industry insiders, agents and brokers, attorneys, consumer advocates and public adjusters. Our goal is to help policyholders understand the process and get fair claim settlements. We offer these tips as a public service.
